Emergenza

So… we’ve signed to play in the Emergenza “battle of the bands”. This is an international (it started in Italy?) multi-round contest with grand finals in germany next year – which will be an opportunity to get more exposure outside the San Francisco scene. Although, as it happens, the first few rounds are actually in San Francisco! See
www.emergenza.net/document/.../iscri.asp

We’re booked for a first round appearance at the Red Devil Lounge on January 9. And the way it works is that bands progress to the next round based on audience show of hands – so we’ll be needing to really get people out in advace. So watch out for some shameless spamming here on Tribe, plus band members relentlessly selling advance tickets!

Wow! Our Monday night at the Red Devil Lounge for Emergenza (round 1) was amazing.

I’ve never been to the Red Devil on a Monday night, but can well imagine it is typically pretty quiet. But this Monday there were seven bands, each of whom brought along as many friends as possible – for support and to stack the “vote” for the next round.

We went on first, which was pretty neat as there wasn’t the usual scramble to set up all our gear – and we have a lot! And by the time we took the stage the place was packed, mostly with fans and friends – so we were getting woops and screaming before we even played a note. So the energy was great and we really responded with a strong set – technically very tight but also with huge amounts of energy and power. And the audience just went wild. It was a lot of fun.

At the end of the set the MC took a count of hands and then it was off and the next band came on. Which meant that we had to wait until the very end to find out how we’d done – although it became apparent that we’d done very well. And in the meantime, we schmoozed madly, sold a bunch of CDs, and watched the rest of the bands – some of whom were really good.

At the end, the MC announced the four bands who go through to the next round – and we were through. In fact, when they updated their web site the next day (see www.emergenza.net/document/...hedule.asp we were the highest scoring band on the night and one of the highest in the City over this year’s competition so far. Our friends/fans are the greatest!

The next round will probably be in late-March/ early-April at the 12 Galaxies (which was Club Galia when we played there a year or two ago). We’ll be in the studio recording our next CD by then, and will have cut down on gigs, so we’ll have to live on the buzz from this one for a while…
