Solo at Bijou

Well… I did it… as the Bay Area Reporter had it, last night was “the maiden solo voyage for Miss Tori Tait of the pop band Lipstick Conspiracy” at Trauma Flintstone’s “Bijou” at Martuni’s (see www.ebar.com/arts/arts.php

The gig was great - there were a really good bunch of performers – and all really singing (no lip syncing). Almost all were really fantasic - eg Trauma, Leanne Borghesi (aka Anita Cocktail, Miss Faux Queen 2001), Mama Tracy St. Cyr (one of the original Finocchio's performers), Kielbasia, Katya...

So… Martuni’s is obviously familiar territory. I was pretty nervous - but once I got started it went well - and my two songs (I stuck to "Wanna Look Like That" and my Xmas song) were really well received. I think people really liked the fact that they were hearing original material – and sneak previews of stuff that might be on the upcoming second CD.

Plus I got to rawk out on the “Twelve Days of Xmas” as one voice amongst the whole ensemble at the end… "Five Golden Rings!!!"

    Glad you had fun. I would have attended but I didn't find out about it until too late.

      Well.. perhaps I didn't really put it out there...?

      This really was my first ever (!) solo gig - and I was distinctly nervous - so perhaps I subconsciously made sure not too many people I knew would be there?

      Given that it went well, I will be doing it again sometime - and next time I will make sure people know.

        You did GREAT, Tori. And, let's be honest ... there woulda been no more room to squeeze another body in that space. Eeek! But, I definitely think a repeat performance is in order in 2006. Well, maybe not a "repeat," but definitely a RETURN!

        I think what happened is that I popped into here Tribe and saw a thread entitled, "Solo Moment Anyone?"

        I did not think it was an annoucement for an actual performance (it sounded like just a discussion thread) so I did not check into it.

        If it had been titled something like "Tori At Martuni's Solo on Dec 5th!" (or something) it would have caught my eye.

        And did you put it on the events list here? I didn't see it but there are so many places on tribe to put crap that sometimes it's confusing...

        I found out about it by reading the BAR the night of the event after it had already started and I'd just sat down to dinner with someone.

        But it sounds like you had a great turnout anyway...which is excellent!

        It was one of the best holiday shows I have been to. There was a variety of numbers (performed by a variety of fabulous people) and the mood was FUN. The cookies and hot Chocolate were a hit too.

        Tori, you rocked and not only that you looked like $1,000,000.00. Thanks for inviting me!
